“Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.” 1 Peter 3:9 NASB

How should a believer react when he is mistreated and abused? A purely human reaction is to retaliate by giving back in like manner, to repay evil with evil and insult with insult. Peter states that this should not be the reaction of the believer. He is to restrain from getting even. Instead, a believer is to react by blessing the person. He should show the kindness, mercy, and grace of the Lord to those who are hostile toward him even as Jesus taught us to return good for evil.

Lord Jesus, even when evil and insults hurt and sting, help me to respond in a gracious and loving way. I desire others to see in me a life changed by Your great grace and mercy.
