“He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.” 1 Peter 2:24 NASB

Jesus died on the cross not for His sin (He was sinless), but for our sins, the sins past, present, and future of all mankind. He died as our substitute to make atonement for our sins. Jesus died in our place. He took our punishment. The reason He bore our sins on the cross was so that we could be freed from the bondage of sin, putting sin to death, and so that we could do what is right in God’s sight, living a righteous life. His wounds and His suffering has healed us from our fatal spiritual condition caused by sin and has given us a new life to be lived in righteousness.

Lord Jesus, I am awestruck by what You did for me on Calvary’s Cross. Help me this day to live in a way that honors what You have done for me.
