“Yet I am writing you a new command, which is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining.” 1 John 2:8 HCSB

On the one hand, it was an “old” command, yet in another way, it is a “new” command. The command to love one another was “old,” having been given as part of the Old Testament law. Yet, it is “new” because Jesus gave it new and deeper meaning. In Jesus we see true, genuine love shown by His sacrifice on Calvary to pay for our sins and to give us a new life and a new love for others. Jesus is the supreme example of loving one another. God’s light in Jesus is shining, exposing the darkness of sin.

Lord Jesus, let Your love shine through me. Help me to spread Your love and light with those I meet this day.
